Can an old surge protector kill a laptop battery?

I’ve been using an old surge protector for my laptop for about a year and my battery just suddenly died and won’t work without the charger plugged in. I’m not sure how old the surge protector is, but I would say that it’s probably more than 5 years old. I’m going to replace it, but I was just wondering if the battery could have died because the surge protector was old/ineffective.

if the surge protector was in some way damaged (probably not), it could have hurt your charger but I dont’ think it would have done any harm to your laptop

the problem is probably with your battery…
do you leave it plugged in excessively? that can do it…
