how do i make a laptop(or xbox360hdd) hdd external?

i bought a sata 2.5″ hdd enclosure kit online. just received it and i tried installing a old xbox360 hdd and my pc didnt recognize it… later i tried installing a old Laptop Hdd and same thing didnt recognize anything… am i doing something wrong??

I got that, it has a separate power source for the drive, I love it, works with almost everything.
