Is there any performance difference between 4GB 1 dimm and 2 dimm RAM?
I’m going to get 4GB DDR3 RAM in my new laptop and I have the option of getting 2 dimm or 1 dimm for an extra $25. Is there any performance difference if I get 1 dimm or 2 dimm? Or will it be the same?
DIMM means Dual Inline Memory Module. 1 dimm means that 1 4 GB RAM stick is installed on one slot, and 2 dimm is 2 GB RAM sticks installed on two slots. The only difference is the amount of storage left for another RAM stick, so 2 dimm will just install 2 2 GB RAM sticks on two slots, and 1 dimm is a full 4 GB RAM stick installed in one slot. 1 dimm is perfect for RAM-eating programs you gonna use, but 2 dimm is perfect for surfing the web.My laptop– i think– is 2 dimm, since it probably uses 2 GB sticks to use up 2 slots. So unless you are going to do multitasking or some sort, I suggest getting the 2 dimm.
I hope this helps!
