gateway laptop wont recognise charger?

i have a gateway mt6840 laptop. just recently it stoped working. we took it to geek squad and they said the mothernoard was bad. i didnt think that was the problem so i started messing with the charger and the input on the laptop because it wouldnt charge up and if i have the chargeer in the laptop and the laptop is on its side pushing on the charger it starts to charge. could somebody please help me by giving me advise on how to fix it and how much it could cost me

Sounds like you have a bad power jack. Broken solder connection on circuit board. Is it loose when you plug it in the back of the laptop?
If so that is what it is, seek professional repair as it is not a repair for the novice!
